Day to day life in M’ystifa was spiraling out of control at an alarming pace. Countless denizens of evil were hunting the outer walls of every village. Authorities spent countless hours chasing endless leads after each bizarre appearance. No one knew how to react as the news came in – this land was completely unprepared for what was inevitably about to happen.
Almost 60 years ago to this day, elder’s from every walk of life gathered around a small fire in a meeting hall north of isla village. They weathered the extraneous heat, wiping brows from time to time, trying to draw a plan to rid the land of the same issue. The source of the evil was evident to them – it had been a compelling force for hundreds of years past. Their fathers worried about it, as did their grandfathers and relatives even more distant then that.
Eternity - the sum of all living things - gathered strength from the death of good souls. Described as a colossal lavender vapor by those who had seen it and survived, it's power was aspiring.
After days of heated discussions, the elders decided to descend on a small island far to the south to try and do whatever they could to permanently eradicate the creature forever. Three days sailing through the turbulent waters of the Zwark river lead them to a place no man had set foot for as long as anyone could remember. All signs of life had been replaced with an eerie aura that captivated each and every mind.
Trees that stood proud hundreds of years ago had been reduced to nothing but withered stumps, rotting from the inside out. There were no joyful birds or other wildlife – just bones and the fowl stench of rotting fish along the pebbled shoreline. All forms of life were vulnerable to the soul-sucking powers eternity pompously wielded.
Almost everyone who ventured into the dank bowels of m’ystifa to confront the mass, face to face, never returned. The invasion was at best a bust and many paid the ultimate price in vain.
After the event, the mayhem in M’ystifa slowed to a halt. The general populace figured that the elders, even though they didn’t return, must have managed to do whatever it took to defeat eternity, ridding the world of it’s horrible and perplexing aggression.
They were mistaken.
If only a legendary party could assemble with the wares and resolve to confront it one more time…
