Spell Schools
There are five schools of magic in Legends of M'ystifa - Cleric, Druid, Shaman, Warlock and Champion (which is unlocked through in-game accomplishments). Spells are learned by reading spell books that are granted to a character when they level up.

The Caller class is able to summon mythical creatures to aid them in battle. These summon spells are learned by consuming the hearts of these mythical creatures. They are generally quite powerful and hidden in out of the way areas.

The Shadow Warrior class is able to cast Warlock magic, up to the 20th level spell. The Paladin class is able to cast Cleric magic, up to the 20th level spell.

Here is a complete list of spells to be found in game for each school, except for the Champion and Caller classes - which are left for the explorer to uncover!

Spell Books
When a new spell book is found and read by a character, it will appear in the spell list and be available for casting by that character only. Spell lists are not shared between characters.

To permanently remove a spell from the spell list, select it and click the Remove button.

The spell list can also be used to set up quick cast keys, which is detailed in a later section.

Spell Description

The spell description panel provides detailed information for a selected spell. This includes the spell name, description of it's usage and the mana cost.

The spell description panel can also be used to set up quick cast keys, which is detailed in a later section.

Mana Cost
This value is a measure of how many mana points it will cost to attempt to cast a spell. The mana cost can be reduced through the Mana Conversion skill, if it is higher then the level of spell you are casting. For example, a level 10 spell that costs 50 MP maly be cast and use only some lesser amount, perhaps even as much as a 75% reduction, if your Mana Conversion skill is 20.

Even if you think a spell will be reduced to, let's say 10 MP, you have to have the full casting cost available or you won't be able to cast it.

The higher you raise the Mana Conversion skill, the greater reductions you will reap.

Spell Fizzles

When you cast a spell that is equal or higher level then your character level, you have a good chance of fizzling the spell. Fizzling a spell causes the mana cost to be paid and a lost turn (in battle).

It is possible for a level 50 character to fizzle a level 1 spell, but the chance is very low. The higher your level compared to the spell level you are attempting to cast, the better chance you have to get the spell off without a fizzle.

Spell Resists

When you cast a spell, your casting skill in the spell school is checked against the Magic Defense skill of your target. For example, if your Shaman skill is 50 and you are casting on a creature that has a Magic Defense skill of 100, odds are you'll be resisted. Having a spell resisted causes the mana cost to be paid and a lost turn (in battle).

Some creatures are more resistant to magic than melee, some more resistant to missle than magic. You'll need to experiment to determine the best way to destroy your foes.

Caster / Target
The caster and target panel allow you to choose who will cast a spell and who will receive it's benefits.

Quick Cast Keys
Quick cast keys allow you to configure up to six spells for quick casting. When in the magic window, select the caster and the target and press the number key on your keyboard that corresponds with the spell you wish to cast. Using quick cast keys in battle is covered in a later section.

There are a couple of ways to set a quick cast key.

  • Right-click the spell in the spell list then press the corresponding quick cast key you wish to bind it to.
  • Left-click the spell in the spell list to bring up it's description. Drag and drop the title of the spell from the description panel to the quick cast key you wish to bind to.

You can right-click a quick cast key spell to unbind it.
